Tremolat

Tremolat is a delightful village of yellow stone in the Dordogne and is about 30km east of Bergerac. The road follows the Dordogne River and to enter the town you cross a lovely old bridge, to the right of this bridge is the rail bridge, also a lovely bridge which is the direct railway link to Bordeaux which makes Tremolat an easy village to reach by train.

In the village is the Church of St Nicholas which has been built on the foundations of the first, 9th century church. The stations of the cross are wooden crosses of a design similar to the celtic cross.

On the edge of the village is a 12th century chapel, Saint-Hilaire Chapel which has been restored.

The Cingle de Tremolat is a large curve in the river where the river follows a giant meander, with the two sides of the loop almost close enough to join up.

The view from the Belvedere de Tremolat, at the top of the Cingle de Tremolat, is one of the best in the Dordogne, stretching for 180 degrees.

Market day is on a Tuesday and features locally grown produce.
