Sarlat Market | Markets in Sarlat the Dordogne

Sarlat Market

Sarlat Market dates back to Medieval times and is famous throughout the region.

A Sarlat market is held twice a week in the old town. Wednesday mornings are dedicated to food with the local produce providers setting up there stalls in and around Place de la Liberte. On a Saturday the food producers are back in and around Place de la Liberte in the morning until around 1pm. General traders with a variety of goods can be found along rue de la republique for the entire day.

The Dordogne and Sarlat are famous for duck, goose and walnuts all of which can be found at the market along with gourmet delights from nearby regions such as Rocamadour goats cheese and Bergerac wines.

The Markets of Sarlat

Sarlat offers a number of markets with the biggest and most well known taking place on a Saturday.

Sarlat Market

Sarlat Market is held year round as follows:

  • Saturday: in the old town – food and general merchandise from 8.30 am to 6 pm.
  • Saturday Morning Market: Place de la Liberté – food market from 8.30 am to 1 pm.
  • Wednesday Morning: Place de la Liberté – small food market from 8.30 am to 1 pm.

Sarlat Covered Market

Open all year and is in the former Sainte Marie church in Place de la Liberté.
Off Season: everyday (except on Thursday) from 8.30 am to 1 pm.
High Season: everyday from 8.30 am to 2 pm. On Friday from 9.30 am to 8 pm.

Sarlat Organic Night Market

Place du 14 Juillet (in front of the Post Office).

Thursdays from the 17th of June to the 16th of September 6pm to 10pm.

Sarlat Truffle and Foie Gras Market

Place Boissaire – near the Covered Market.

Saturday from 9 am to 12 am, in December, January and February.

Sarlat Festivals

TRUFFLE FESTIVAL: Third week in January. Includes cooking demonstration with a focus on Foie Gras and Truffles.

SARLAT FEST’OIE: Third Sunday in February Sarlat celebrates its emblem with a goose fair.

RINGETA: Every 2 years on Whit Sunday Festival celebrating the traditional games of the past.

JOURNEES DU TERRIOR: Held in May A two day market with local produce.

FETE DE LA MUSIQUE: End of July to early August. National music day on the 21st June every year throughout the medieval town.

THEATRE GAMES FESTIVAL: One of the eldest theatre festivals in France. Third Saturday in September.

EXHIBITION OF PHOTOGRAPHY. In July and August.

PATRIMMONE: (European Heritage Day) 3rd week-end in September. In the evening “Sarlat’s heritage beneath the stars”.

MOVIE FESTIVAL: Mid-November.

CHRISTMAS MARKET and outdoor skating rink: December.
